About the museum
Our living archive
Balobedu Nation Digital Museum and Heritage is a developing digital museum for the history of the Balobedu nation. One person is a Molobedu; the people together are Balobedu. It brings royal house memories and community accounts into dialogue with manuscripts, books, maps, photographs and public records.
Purpose
A home for many voices
The museum aims to preserve material that is scattered across families and institutions, make research accessible worldwide and give each community room to tell its own history. The Queenship and the Rain Queen are central, but the story also includes founding houses, later branches, elephant totem clans, villages and the people who sustained these institutions.
Royal Modika remains a dedicated family archive. This museum connects that collection to a wider Balobedu account.

How an account enters the record
Preserve differences
Record differing spellings and genealogies without silently changing an older source or presenting one account as universal.
Respect the custodians
Seek consent for living people’s stories, images and sensitive knowledge before public display. Attribute sensitive oral testimony to “a contributor” when the custodian wishes to remain unnamed.

What comes next
As more documents arrive, they will be catalogued by migration and origins, royal houses and kinship, Queenship and succession, community branches, places and boundaries, culture and praise poetry, and modern recognition. Each published account will point readers to its evidence and unresolved questions.
